Acne is a common skin condition caused by comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and pus-filled spots (pustules).
It usually starts at puberty and can vary in severity from a few spots on the face, neck, back, and chest, which most adolescents will have at some time, to a more significant problem that may cause acne scarring and impact on self-confidence. For the majority, it tends to resolve by the late teens or early twenties, but it can persist for longer in some people.
Types of acne:
Acne cosmetica: Acne cosmetica is a mild form of acne caused by the use of makeup. This type of acne often forms on the face, neck, hairline and scalp. Consider a natural, mineral make up to prevent acne cosmetica from forming
Acne rosacea: The type of acne occurs when blood vessels under the skin become enlarged causing redness along with whiteheads and/or blackheads. Unlike cystic acne, rosacea does not scar the skin.
Acne vulgaris: A slightly more severe form of acne, acne vulgaris forms when skin follicles become clogged with hair and oil. This type of acne is persistent and includes blackheads, pimples and possible scarring.
Adult acne: While acne is most prevalent in young adults, older adults may still suffer from the skin condition. The main factors that contribute towards adult acne are bacteria build-up, excessive oil, inflammation and clogged pores.
Back acne: Acne is mostly caused by excessive oil and dead skin cells clogging your pores. It can also be hormonal. A healthy diet, loose-fitting clothing and showering after the gym will help keep your back clean to prevent the build-up of oil or excess skin cells.
Cystic acne: Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne, where cysts form deep underneath the skin. The combination of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria build up, causing the skin to clog with cysts that can take several weeks to rise to the surface.
Acne occurs when pores become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, debris and bacteria. The skin pores are actually openings of hair follicles which contain the sebaceous glands. These produce an oily substance called sebum, acting as a skin lubricant. When the sebaceous glands overproduce oil along and pores get clogged, acne develops.
The main risk factors for acne are hormonal changes or imbalances, medication and diet. Acne can also be hereditary and many of those who develop the condition have a family history of acne.
There are many different types of acne, which makes a personalised treatment plan very important. We highly recommend you attend a consultation, where our expert therapists will be able to diagnose the type of acne you have and grade its severity as either mild, moderate or severe.

Hair loss, refers to the thinning or shedding of hair from the scalp or other parts of the body. It’s a common condition that can affect individuals of all ages and genders. Hair loss can occur gradually or suddenly and may be temporary or permanent, depending on the underlying cause.
Several factors contribute to hair loss:
Genetics: Hereditary conditions like male-pattern and female-pattern baldness are the most common causes, leading to gradual thinning over time.
Hormonal Changes: Life events such as pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, or thyroid problems can disrupt hormonal balance, resulting in hair loss.
Medical Conditions: Autoimmune diseases like alopecia areata, scalp infections, and other illnesses can lead to hair shedding.
Medications and Treatments: Certain drugs used for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, and high blood pressure may cause hair loss as a side effect.
Physical or Emotional Stress: Significant stress can trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium, where hair prematurely enters the shedding phase.
Nutritional Deficiencies: Lack of essential nutrients like iron, protein, and vitamins can affect hair health.
Understanding the specific cause of hair loss is crucial for determining the appropriate treatment. Consulting with a healthcare professional can help identify the underlying issue and explore suitable options for management or restoration.
Understanding the cause of your hair loss is essential for determining the most effective treatment. At The London Skin Clinic, we recommend a comprehensive evaluation to identify the underlying factors contributing to your condition. This process typically involves:
Medical History Review: Discussing your overall health, family history of hair loss, recent illnesses, medications, and lifestyle factors that might influence hair health.
Physical Examination: Assessing your scalp and hair to observe patterns of hair loss and check for signs of scalp conditions or inflammation.
Hair Pull Test: Gently pulling a small section of hair to determine the severity and stage of hair shedding.
- Blood Tests: Conducting tests to detect underlying medical conditions, such as thyroid imbalances or nutritional deficiencies, that could contribute to hair loss.
PRP for Hair Loss
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a non-surgical treatment that utilizes your body’s own healing properties to address hair thinning and loss. The process involves drawing a small amount of your blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting this platelet-rich plasma into targeted areas of the scalp. These platelets contain growth factors that may stimulate hair follicles, potentially promoting hair growth and improving hair density.
Key Points:
Treatment Duration: Approximately 60 minutes per session.
Recommended Schedule: An initial series of 3 sessions, spaced one month apart, followed by maintenance treatments every 3 to 6 months.
Suitability: Commonly used for individuals experiencing androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) and other forms of hair thinning.
Safety: As the treatment uses your own blood components, the risk of allergic reactions or infections is minimal.
Patients often report improvements in hair texture and thickness within a few months of starting treatment.
Procell Microchanneling
Procell Microchanneling is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure designed to rejuvenate the scalp and support healthier hair growth. The treatment uses a specialized device equipped with fine filaments to create uniform microchannels in the scalp. These channels facilitate the delivery of a serum rich in growth factors, peptides, and cytokines derived from stem cells. The combination aims to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, potentially enhancing hair follicle function.
Key Points:
Treatment Duration: Typically completed within 60 minutes.
Recommended Schedule: A series of 4 -6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with maintenance treatments as advised by your clinician.
Suitability: Appropriate for individuals seeking to improve scalp health and address early signs of hair thinning.
Safety: The procedure is designed to minimize discomfort and downtime, with most patients resuming normal activities shortly after treatment.
Procell Microchanneling is also utilized for various skin rejuvenation purposes, including improving skin tone and reducing the appearance of fine lines.
