Skin Concerns
Acne
At The London Skin Clinic, we are committed to supporting clients with acne-prone or congested skin. Because acne can present in many different forms, an individualised approach is important.
We recommend booking a professional skin consultation, where your clinician will assess your skin, discuss possible contributing factors, and develop a tailored plan to support your skin health. The assessment may include identifying the type and extent of congestion so that a suitable treatment pathway can be created for you.

Acne is a common skin condition caused by comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and pus-filled spots (pustules).
It usually starts at puberty and can vary in severity from a few spots on the face, neck, back, and chest, which most adolescents will have at some time, to a more significant problem that may cause acne scarring and impact on self-confidence. For the majority, it tends to resolve by the late teens or early twenties, but it can persist for longer in some people.
Types of acne:
Acne cosmetica: Acne cosmetica is a mild form of acne caused by the use of makeup. This type of acne often forms on the face, neck, hairline and scalp. Consider a natural, mineral make up to prevent acne cosmetica from forming
Acne rosacea: The type of acne occurs when blood vessels under the skin become enlarged causing redness along with whiteheads and/or blackheads. Unlike cystic acne, rosacea does not scar the skin.
Acne vulgaris: A slightly more severe form of acne, acne vulgaris forms when skin follicles become clogged with hair and oil. This type of acne is persistent and includes blackheads, pimples and possible scarring.
Adult acne: While acne is most prevalent in young adults, older adults may still suffer from the skin condition. The main factors that contribute towards adult acne are bacteria build-up, excessive oil, inflammation and clogged pores.
Back acne: Acne is mostly caused by excessive oil and dead skin cells clogging your pores. It can also be hormonal. A healthy diet, loose-fitting clothing and showering after the gym will help keep your back clean to prevent the build-up of oil or excess skin cells.
Cystic acne: Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne, where cysts form deep underneath the skin. The combination of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria build up, causing the skin to clog with cysts that can take several weeks to rise to the surface.
Acne occurs when pores become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, debris and bacteria. The skin pores are actually openings of hair follicles which contain the sebaceous glands. These produce an oily substance called sebum, acting as a skin lubricant. When the sebaceous glands overproduce oil along and pores get clogged, acne develops.
The main risk factors for acne are hormonal changes or imbalances, medication and diet. Acne can also be hereditary and many of those who develop the condition have a family history of acne.
There are many different types of acne, which makes a personalised treatment plan very important. We highly recommend you attend a consultation, where our expert therapists will be able to diagnose the type of acne you have and grade its severity as either mild, moderate or severe.

Understanding Acne
Acne is a common skin condition that appears as blackheads, whiteheads, or pustules on the face, chest, back, or shoulders. It often develops during adolescence and may vary in visibility and persistence.
While many people experience clearer skin as they move into adulthood, acne can occur at any age and is influenced by factors such as hormones, skin type, and daily habits.
Common Types of Acne
Comedonal acne: Characterised by blackheads and whiteheads, often appearing on the forehead, nose, or chin.
Acne cosmetica: May occur when certain skincare or makeup products block pores. Using non-comedogenic or mineral-based cosmetics can help reduce this risk.
Inflammatory acne: Presents as red bumps or pustules and may be associated with excess oil and bacteria within blocked pores.
Adult acne: Some adults continue to experience breakouts later in life, which may relate to hormonal fluctuations or other contributing factors.
Back or body acne: Breakouts on the shoulders, back, or chest are common. Wearing breathable clothing and gentle cleansing after exercise can help support clearer skin.
Cystic or deep acne: This form occurs beneath the skin’s surface and may take longer to resolve. It often requires professional assessment for management options.
Consultation at The London Skin Clinic
Because acne can vary in type and severity, we recommend booking a professional skin consultation. Your clinician will assess your skin, discuss contributing factors, and develop an appropriate treatment or care plan suited to your needs.
Understanding Acne
Acne occurs when pores become blocked with a combination of oil, dead skin cells, and surface bacteria. Each pore is connected to a hair follicle containing sebaceous glands that produce sebum—an oil that helps keep skin lubricated. When excess sebum and cellular debris accumulate, it can contribute to the development of congestion or breakouts.
Factors such as hormonal fluctuations, certain medications, genetics, and lifestyle can influence how acne appears on the skin. Because every person’s skin is unique, an individualised approach is essential.
We recommend booking a professional consultation at The London Skin Clinic, where your clinician will assess your skin and discuss contributing factors. From there, a personalised plan can be created to support your skin’s health and help manage breakouts safely and effectively.
Acne + Extraction Facials
This treatment is designed to support acne-prone or congested skin through deep cleansing and gentle extractions. It includes a purifying clay mask, optional LED light exposure, and a light lymphatic facial massage to promote circulation and skin balance. Each facial is customised to your skin type and current condition, with a focus on calming and rehydrating the skin.
Procell Microchanelling
Procell Microchanneling is a professional skin rejuvenation procedure that uses a mechanised device to create controlled microchannels on the skin’s surface. A serum containing growth factors and peptides is applied during treatment to support skin health and recovery. This procedure may be recommended for clients concerned with uneven texture or post-blemish marks and is performed in a clinical environment by trained staff.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Skin Rejuvenation
IPL is a form of light-based skin rejuvenation used to address general skin discolouration and uneven tone. It works by delivering controlled light pulses to the skin’s surface, which can improve overall luminosity and clarity. Your clinician will assess whether IPL is suitable for your skin type during a consultation.
