Acne is a common skin condition caused by comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and pus-filled spots (pustules).<\/span><\/p>

It usually starts at puberty and can vary in severity from a few spots on the face, neck, back, and chest, which most adolescents will have at some time, to a more significant problem that may cause acne scarring and impact on self-confidence. For the majority, it tends to resolve by the late teens or early twenties, but it can persist for longer in some people.<\/span><\/p>

Types of acne:<\/p>

Acne cosmetica: <\/strong>Acne cosmetica is a mild form of acne caused by the use of makeup. This type of acne often forms on the face, neck, hairline and scalp. Consider a natural, mineral make up to prevent acne cosmetica from forming<\/p>

Acne rosacea: <\/strong>The type of acne occurs when blood vessels under the skin become enlarged causing redness along with whiteheads and\/or blackheads. Unlike cystic acne, rosacea does not scar the skin.\u00a0<\/p>

Acne vulgaris: <\/strong>A slightly more severe form of acne, acne vulgaris forms when skin follicles become clogged with hair and oil. This type of acne is persistent and includes blackheads, pimples and possible scarring.\u00a0<\/p>

Adult acne:<\/strong> While acne is most prevalent in young adults, older adults may still suffer from the skin condition. The main factors that contribute towards adult acne are bacteria build-up, excessive oil, inflammation and clogged pores.\u00a0<\/p>

Back acne: <\/strong>Acne is mostly caused by excessive oil and dead skin cells clogging your pores. It can also be hormonal. A\u00a0 healthy diet, loose-fitting clothing and showering after the gym will help keep your back clean to prevent the build-up of oil or excess skin cells.\u00a0<\/p>

Cystic acne: <\/strong>Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne, where cysts form deep underneath the skin. The combination of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria build up, causing the skin to clog with cysts that can take several weeks to rise to the surface.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Acne occurs when pores become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, debris and bacteria.\u00a0 The skin pores are actually openings of hair follicles which contain the sebaceous glands. These produce an oily substance called sebum, acting as a skin lubricant.\u00a0When the sebaceous glands overproduce oil along and pores get clogged, acne develops.<\/span><\/p>

The main risk factors for acne are hormonal changes or imbalances, medication and diet. Acne can also be hereditary and many of those who develop the condition have a family history of acne.<\/span><\/p>

There are many different types of acne, which makes a personalised treatment plan very important.
